Helping in the community
We continue to support various local/global agencies, both financially and through volunteering our time.
Along with other Lutheran congregations and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, we have recently completed a
Habitat for Humanity home here in the Lexington area.
In the near future we will be opening a clothes closet
for the community.

First Lutheran Brotherhood
The men's group meets on the 4th Monday of each month, sharing a meal, fellowship, and a program.
Occasionally, the group gets away for a camping/fishing retreat.  The First Lutheran Men in Mission, known
as "The Brotherhood" also take part in various mission efforts such as grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for
the men at Trinity Oaks, taking residents of our local Lutheran Homes on a fishing trip, neighborhood
renovation projects, and supporting local/global mission efforts.

First Lutheran Sisterhood
Our women's group meets to share in a meal, fellowship, and a program.  Each year some of the women from
this group enjoy a retreat at the beach.  The Sisterhood is also involved in various mission opportunities both
locally and globally.  Recently,
health kits were put together and sent to Lutheran World Relief.

Hilltop ministry
Led by the laity, members of First Lutheran offer a worship experience to the residents of Hilltop Living Center.

Our Seminarians
First Lutheran has recently celebrated the ordination of one of our members, who now serves a congregation
in Maryland
.  We are also supporting another member, currently pursuing her degree at Hood Theological
Seminary in Salisbury.

Mission trips
Living in North Carolina, we know all too well the destruction and loss associated with hurricanes and flooding.
In October 2005, we sent a group to Slidell, Louisiana to help those devastated by Hurricane Katrina.  Since
then, we have traveled to Bayou La Batre
, Biloxi, Iowa, Goldsboro, and West Virginia to help with rebuilding
efforts.  On a local level, we have participated in hurricane clean-up at Camp Lutherock.  We now have a
disaster response trailer which
can be equipped with the appropriate tools for each mission trip.

Youth group
The FLC Youth group is a dynamic bunch who meet each Sunday.  After a meal provided by a congregation
member, the youth then engage in some sort of program or activity.  Aside from their weekly gatherings, this
group enjoys ski trips, camping, and ongoing mission events in and around the community.

Our Senior group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 11:00am.  In addition to sharing a meal
and fellowship, they frequently involve themselves in ministries within the congregation.  These ministries
include, but are not limited to, a card ministry, visitation, and sending care packages to our college students.

FLC currently has two active circles.  The Mary Circle meets at 10:30am on the first Tuesday of each month.
The Agape Circle meets at 7:30pm on the first Monday of each month.  Both of these groups are involved
with Bible study, mission and ministry.

Ministry Teams
FLC also utilizes ministry teams, which are faithful groups of people using their gifts for the glory of God:
Outreach, Inreach, Worship, Learning, Endowment and Memorial, Support, Mutual Ministries, Property, and

We are blessed to have many gifted people who share their musical talents:
Chancel Choir, Handbell choir, Chimes, Joyful Ringers

If you are interested in joining or supporting any of these ministries, know that you are welcome!
